I am sitting at a computer in my school library gaping at the news. For the first time in four years, terrorism has hit Jerusalem, and it has hit hard. Last night, a Palestinian gunman entered the library of a rabbinical seminary and killed 8 students. It was the deadliest attack in Israel in two years. In addition to the dead, it has left around 10 wounded, and one boy critically.
More details follow-- the circumstances, the identity of the shooter, the reaction of Israel and of Palestinian authorities, the potential effect on peace talks, -- but as I prepare for my math test next period I can only think of the eight lives lost. Students. Boys. And where were they killed? In a school. In a library. Not so different from the library I am in right now.

This was such a tragedy. But I know that for me, personally, it was hard to connect to these people that I never met. Of course I was sad but, until I saw the following video, it was merely another attack: (WARNING - if blood makes you queasy, this is not for you!!!)

After I watched this, I was really moved. It really helped me connect with what happened.
May the mourners be comforted and may the injured have speedy recoveries!
