In the July/August ’09 print issue, we unveiled results from our first-ever teen survey about love, relationships and sex. Essentially we wanted to know what Jewish teens like you do and think when it comes to sex. And we thought you might be surprised by some of the results—maybe you’re not the only one who hasn’t done “it.”

We surveyed more than 400 of your peers online this spring and asked all of the tough and taboo questions to uncover the truth. These were the questions we thought you would be most curious about and would best inform us on what to include in our annual Love/Sex issue. Do you talk to your parents about sex? What’s the deal with sexting? What does “hooking up” actually mean to you? Those of you who answered these questions are from all over the country and range in age from 13 to 19 (though most respondents were between 15 and 19).

Girls represented 68 percent of survey-takers, while guys comprised 32 percent. The majority—almost 37 percent—come from Reform backgrounds, while 31 percent are Conservative, 6 percent are Modern Orthodox and 4 percent aren’t affiliated. In terms of sexual orientation, 86 percent of participants identify as straight, 4 percent are bisexual, 3 percent are gay and 6 percent aren’t sure.

At the end of the survey was an opportunity to ask us your biggest unanswered questions about sex. We’ve been answering these questions one by one. You can view the questions we answered in June here, and our newest answers here.

With all this in mind, we’re excited to roll out the results from this groundbreaking survey! For even more results, pick up a copy of the July/August '09 issue now.
