Each month, Adam brings you hot and current news on our past cover girls/guys, as well as the stars we feature in our PopLife interviews. Since JVibe gets the first scoop on young stars like our Jan/Feb 2007 cover guy Joe Trohman from Fall Out Boy and March/April 2007’s Sara Paxton, we want to keep you updated on their success! Then, when they become as huge as past cover-celebs like Natalie Portman and Zach Braff (don’t worry, we’ve got them covered, too), you can say you saw it back in the day when JVibe got the story. In this corner of our Pop Culture section, Adam will always be here with Adam’s Vibe, covering the Jews you love most. (And if you’ve missed seeing them in print, subscribe now to JVibe magazine.)

Josh Peck’s (Hope, March/April 2008) newest movie, The Wackness, co-starring Ben Kingsley and Mary-Kate Olsen, was released in theaters on July 2. Set in 1994 New York City, Peck plays Luke, a socially uncomfortable teenage pot dealer with no friends, issues with his parents and a whopping lack of self-confidence with girls. He trades weed for sessions with his therapist, Dr. Squires (Kingsley), whose much-younger wife (Famke Janssen) is slipping away from him. Squires, a drug-addled shrink with a receding hairline and an adolescent state of mind, is an unlikely role model for Luke, but the two forge a friendship based on a mutual need: neither one is having any luck with the ladies.

The Wackness combines adolescent angst and growing up in the Big Apple with a knock-your-headphones-off soundtrack that features the best and the brightest of the 90s' hip-hop scene. Check it out before it leaves theaters and view the official website here.

Kevin Youkilis (Take Action, September/October 2005) helped the Boston-based nonprofit Good Sports raise $15,000 by putting himself on auction—the highest bidder got to play Nerf football with him last month. Good Sports’ mission is to increase youth participation in sports, fitness and recreational programs by targeting one of the major obstacles limiting participation—access to sports equipment.

Josh Gad’s (Power of Speech, January/February 2008) newest movie, The Rocker, co-starring Rainn Wilson, Christina Applegate and Jeff Garlin, opened in theaters on Aug. 20. Wilson plays Robert Fishman, a burnt-out drummer who was dumped from an up-and-coming  rock band in the 1980s. Fishman’s nephew, Matt (Gad), needs a drummer for his high school band to play at the school prom. Fishman is recruited for the gig, which gives him a second chance at a comeback. Check out the official website for the comedy here.

Shia LaBeouf’s (Peace, May/June 2008) newest movie, Eagle Eye, is set to be released in theaters on Sept. 26. Co-starring Billy Bob Thornton, Michelle Monaghan and Rosario Dawson, LaBeouf re-teams with Disturbia director D.J. Caruso, playing a young slacker whose twin brother has mysteriously died. Rachel (Monaghan) finds that her child is missing, and soon the two strangers realize they have been framed as terrorists. Forced to become members of a cell with plans to carry out a political assassination, they must work together to extricate themselves, all while being led by a mysterious voice. Check out the new thriller’s official website here.

Ethan Zohn (Misfit Issue, February/March 2005) has begun the first-ever Grassroot Soccer UNITED Dribble, a 500-mile journey from Boston to Washington, D.C., during which he’s dribbling a soccer ball the entire way to raise worldwide awareness about HIV/AIDS. Zohn is the co-founder of Grassroot Soccer Inc., an organization that uses the power of soccer in the fight against AIDS and provides African youth with the knowledge, skills and support to live HIV-free. The Dribble will cover more than 500 miles and will last more than 100 days. It kicked off on Aug. 20 at the New England Revolution’s Foxboro Stadium and will conclude in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 1—World AIDS Day. At various stops along the route, Ethan and Grassroots Soccer will host events, clinics and rallies for local youth, community teams and leagues and all other supporters. Along the way, Ethan will be joined by friends, celebrities and fans alike. Starting now and all throughout the Dribble, you are encouraged to join Dribble 2008 by:

1. Logging on to the Grassroot Soccer website here and making a donation

2. Sporting and selling custom Grassroot Soccer gear and apparel by PUMA

3. Organizing support among other players and fans in your community

The price of one custom PUMA Grassroot Soccer UNITED T-shirt—$25—is the cost of putting one African youth through the Grassroot Soccer program. PUMA and Eurosport are official sponsors of Grassroot Soccer UNITED and Dribble 2008. Partners include General Motors, Kiwanis Club, Morgans Hotel Group, VT Sports and Major League Soccer clubs the New England Revolution, Chicago Fire and NY Red Bulls. While the stage for the Grassroot Soccer Dribble is regional, its reach, and that of the Grassroot Soccer UNITED movement, is global; supporters worldwide are encouraged to join the movement through donations, signature gear purchases and mobilizing friends and teammates.
