Each month, Adam brings you hot and current news on our past cover girls/guys, as well as the stars we feature in our PopLife interviews. Since JVibe gets the first scoop on young stars like our Jan/Feb 2007 cover guy Joe Trohman from Fall Out Boy and March/April 2007’s Sara Paxton, we want to keep you updated on their success! Then, when they become as huge as past cover-celebs like Natalie Portman and Zach Braff (don’t worry, we’ve got them covered, too), you can say you saw it back in the day when JVibe got the story. In this corner of our Pop Culture section, Adam will always be here with Adam’s Vibe, covering the Jews you love most. (And if you’ve missed seeing them in print, subscribe now to JVibe magazine.)
Running her fiancé’s foundation has become a full-time job, says Enza Sambataro, Kevin Youkilis’s (Take Action, September/October, 2005) bride-to-be. “Kevin thinks these events happen by osmosis,” she joked to the Boston Globe on Aug. 21. “It’s actually a lot of work.” Sambataro was referring to a fashion, food and entertainment fundraiser held in Boston on the 21st to raise money for Youk’s foundation, Hits for Kids, which supports community-based children’s charities and medical-research programs. To date, the foundation has raised over $750,000. For more information on Hits for Kids, visit the website here.
Phillips Candy House has also created a candy bar inspired by the Sox infielder, and a portion of the proceeds will go to Hits for Kids as well. The milk-chocolate bar called “Yoouukk!” will be on sale outside Fenway Park for the rest of the season and also available online at phillipschocolate.com. Finally, Youk’s new energy drink called “Youk’s Signature SlumpBuster” is now available at Walgreens throughout New England.
Mila Kunis (Personal Satisfaction, November/December 2005) is currently shooting a new Mike Judge (Beavis and
Butthead) movie called Extract, which is set to be released in theaters sometime next year. Co-starring notables Ben Affleck and Jason Bateman, the comedy follows the personal and professional problems endured by the owner of a flower-extract plant. To keep tabs on Extract, you can follow its progress here.
Natalie Portman (Love/Sex, June/July 2005 and Power of Speech, January/February 2008) showed up at the Venice Film Festival on Sept. 2 to present her directorial debut, a short film called
Eve, which stars Lauren Bacall. Portman also received a humanitarian award at the festival for her social and environmental activism, and she donated the $50,000 prize to the Jane Goodall Institute in Tanzania. Asked about directing, Portman said: “I was always interested in trying to write and direct. We have so much time off between filming as actors that we tend to get restless and we want a creative outlet. There is not always acting work that fulfills that need.” For more information on Portman and her new film, click here.
Shia LaBeouf’s (Peace, May/June 2008) newest movie, Eagle Eye, was released in theaters on Sept. 26. Co-starring Billy Bob Thornton, Michelle Monaghan and Rosario Dawson, LaBeouf re-teams with Disturbia director D.J. Caruso, playing a young slacker whose twin brother has died mysteriously. Rachel (Monaghan) discovers that her child is missing, and soon the two strangers realize they have been framed as terrorists. Forced to become members of a cell that has plans to carry out a political assassination, they must work together to extricate themselves while being led by a mysterious voice.
