Each month, Adam brings you hot and current news on our past cover girls/guys, as well as the stars we feature in our PopLife interviews. Since JVibe gets the first scoop on young stars like our Jan/Feb cover guy Joe Trohman from Fall Out Boy and March/April's Sara Paxton, we want to keep you updated on their success! Then, when they become as huge as past cover-celebs like Natalie Portman and Zach Braff (don't worry, we've got them covered, too), you can say you saw it back in the day when JVibe got the story. In this corner of our Pop Culture section, Adam will always be here with Adam's Vibe on the Jews you love most. (And if you've missed seeing them in print, subscribe now to JVibe magazine.)
Sacha Baron Cohen (Misfit Issue, February/March 2005) recently told the Telegraph that he officially retired his alter egos Borat and Ali G. because they have become too well-known. He explains in the paper:
“When I was being Ali G. and Borat, I was in character sometimes 14 hours a day, and I came to love them, so admitting I am never going to play them again is quite a sad thing. It is like saying goodbye to a loved one. It is hard, and the problem with success, although it’s fantastic, is that every new person who sees the Borat movie is one less person I ‘get’ with Borat again, so it’s a kind of self-defeating form, really.”
Kevin Youkilis (Take Action, September/October 2005 and Hope, March/April 2008) and the Boston Red Sox agreed on February 10 to a one-year, $3 million dollar contract, avoiding arbitration with the team. Youkilis, who batted .288 with 16 homers, 83 RBIs and 35 doubles to go along with a .390 on-base percentage in 2007, reported to spring training with his Red Sox pals the week of February 18. Shia LaBeouf (JVibe Hot List 2008 and future May/June 2008 cover celebrity)
is set to star in the next Steven Spielberg blockbuster, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which will be released in theaters on May 22. Rumor has it that Shia is set to play the love-child of Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) and Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen) from the first Jones flick, Raiders of the Lost Ark, but those details have not been confirmed by anyone associated with the movie. There will be big-time hype for the new Jones chronicle in the coming months, but check out the exclusive new movie trailer at IndianaJones.com.
Jamie Lynn Sigler (Friendship, December 2004/January 2005) recently toured
Natalie Portman (Love/Sex, June/July 2005 and Power of Speech,
January/February 2008) was recently featured on the cover of W magazine with Scarlett Johansson, her co-star in her new movie, The Other Boleyn Girl, which hit theaters on February 29. In the movie, Portman plays Anne, who competes with her sister Mary (Johansson) for the love interest of 16th-century King Henry VIII, played by Eric Bana. Based on the best-selling novel by Philippa Gregory and directed by Justin Chadwick, this lust-filled drama could be a surprise hit for those who enjoy Portman in period pieces. For more information on the movie, check out its official website here and read the entire W article here.
